Personal adjustments can be made for normal or hard diving conditions. In addition to visual indicators, there are audible alarms for oxygen partial pressure violation, oxygen toxicity, excessive ascent rate, entering decompression diving and exceeding decompression stop ceiling. The suggested retail prices for the EquaNO2x are: wrist mount $520, two gauge console with submersible pressure gauge $575.

NITROX RESOURCE

The Nitrox ReSource, from Genesis Scuba, is button activated (including its Hydroglow backlight). It features automatic altitude adjustment from 2,000 to 14,000 feet, calculating depths in this range as occurring in fresh water. The easy to understand display has prominent icons and a dive profile illustration. There are color coded bar graphs for tissue loading, oxygen exposure and ascent rate. Graphics include a color coded tissue loading bar graph, oxygen exposure bar graph and variable ascent rate indicator. If decompression is needed, the computer calculates stops down to 60 feet. Oxygen partial pressures above 1.4 atmospheres are indicated by a visual warning. The suggested retail prices for the Data Plus are: module $359.95, two gauge console with SPG $439.95 and NavCon console with SPG and compass $479.95.

DATATRANS PLUS

Oceanics DataTrans Plus computer offers all the features of the Data Plus as well as hoseless air integration (via a regulator mounted transmitter) and a whole lot more. Additional graphics include breathing gas time remaining and consumption rate bar graphs. There are many audible alarms, a few of which include: five minutes of breathing gas remaining, entering decompression, excessive ascent rate, gas time remaining equals decompression time, and high partial pressure of oxygen. The suggested retail price for the wrist mounted DataTrans Plus and transmitter is $949.95.

PILOT EAN

The Pilot EAN, from Orca, features finger contact activation and a tap switch operated backlight. It has manually adjusted altitude settings for five ranges from sealevel to 11,480 feet. Audible alarms include high oxygen partial pressure, oxygen toxicity, excessive ascent rate and no decompression time remaining at four minutes. Personal adjustments can be entered for normal or hard diving conditions. The oxygen partial pressure warning can be set from 1.2 to 1.6 atmospheres. The suggested retail price for the wrist mounted Pilot EAN is $469. In a two gauge console with a submersible pressure gauge it is $559.

PILOT AUDIO EAN

Orcas Pilot Audio EAN offers all of the features of the Pilot EAN but can be operated in normal or audio mode. In audio mode, the computer is worn on the facemask strap, near the ear. It offers voice (spoken words) indication of depth, dive time, no decompression stop time, reminder to check air, ascent rate warning and entering decompression diving. The audio mode and backlight are activated by a tap switch. An audible warning (beep) is always given to remind the diver to make a safety stop on ascent. The suggested retail price for the Pilot Audio EAN, which can also be worn on a wrist strap (included), is $599.

SOLUTION NITROX

Sea Quests Solution NitrOX computer (manufactured by Suunto) tracks the divers exposure to nitrogen and oxygen separately and offers graphic representation of oxygen exposure, depth and ascent rate. There are audible warnings for high oxygen exposure, entering decompression, excessive ascent rate, ceiling depth exceeded and high oxygen partial pressure. The computer can be set for three altitude ranges. (Selecting a higher than required altitude range gives a personal safety adjustment.) The suggested retail prices for the Solution NitrOX are: capsule $630; wrist mount $639; hose mount $657; two gauge console, with submersible pressure gauge (SPG) $720; three gauge console (one or two sided), with SPG and compass $765.

CHAMELEON

The Chameleon, from Undersea Breathing Sys-tems, is field upgradeable from air only to nitrox compatible, which allows the owner to purchase one computer that safely offers expanded features as the divers training progresses. The Chameleon offers manual settings for five altitude ranges from sealevel to 11,480 feet. There is a tap switch activated backlight and personal adjustments for normal or hard diving conditions. Audible alarms warn of excessive ascent rate, high oxygen partial pressure and exposure, and a recommended safety stop. The suggested retail price for the wrist mounted Chameleon is $299.

NITROX PRO

Undersea Breathing Systems Nitrox Pro has most of the features of the Chameleon (plus it is always ready to handle nitrox or air). These include a user replaceable battery, tap switch operated backlight, altitude and personal safety adjustments, and ten dive logbook with profiles indicated. Other offerings include an oxygen exposure bar graph and the diver can manually enter a salinity correction factor for the diving medium, from zero percent (fresh water) to seven percent. The suggested retail price for the wrist mounted Nitrox Pro is $399.

NOVA

U.S. Divers Nova computer has three settings for altitude ranges from sealevel to 8,000 feet. To increase personal safety, the diver can select a range higher than that required.
